About

Raquel Ríos, Ph.D., MS, CMI

I’ve been an educator for thirty years and a mindfulness meditation practitioner for fifteen. I’ve had many guides. My late husband Miguel was a soul mate and spiritual guide. Dr. Shiv Talwar of the Spiritual Heritage Education Network got me serious about the power of silence and talking about spiritual development scientifically.

I read a lot and practice everything. I like trying things out, attending meditation centers and listening to people. I believe everyone I meet is my teacher.

I go to my Zen Training manual by Sekida often and the guidance and wisdom of Chögyam Trungpa changed me. Osho kept me company on many nights when I grappled with uncomfortable truths. I am grateful for the work of Daniel Siegel, Jon Kabat Zinn, Ken Wilber, Elizabeth Kübler Ross, David Hawkings, Eckhart Tolle, Joe Dispenza and Edgar Cayce. I love the book, Biografía del Silencio by Pablo D’Ors. I went to hear him speak at a book store in Madrid and got a signed copy, which is unusual for me. I’ve travelled a lot and meditated on the power of nature as a teacher.

I hold a Doctorate of Philosophy in Educational Leadership from Touro University International, a Masters of Science in Elementary Education from Lehman College and a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from New York University. I completed my MBSR training with Mindful Leader and became a certified Mindfulness Instructor at Círculo de Estudios para la Paz, Valencia, Spain. This last training was conducted in Spanish and prepared me to service both English and Spanish speaking clients with confidence.

Other certifications include: Leadership & Management of Humanitarian Action, Humanitarian Policy & Conflict Research Program from Fordham University, Human Subjects Research for Social & Behavioral Faculty, CITI, and Secondary Spanish Teaching Certificate, New York State.

Over the course of my career, I’ve also worked as an instructional designer, professional development specialist, trainer and oral historian. I’ve presented at conferences and worked with teams nationally in the United States, Puerto Rico, Spain and United Arab Emirates.

I am the author of several articles and two books: Teacher Agency for Equity: A Framework for Conscientious Engagement and Mindful Practice for Social Justice: A Guide for Professional Learning Communities. You can also buy them on Amazon. I am currently working on my third book about neurodiversity and mindfulness.

I teach at a Montessori School in Connecticut. I am the mother of two exceptional young adults.
